Yosemite

Family trip to Yosemite National Park.

If there would be one place that everyone should visit sometime in their lives, I think it should be Yosemite National Park in CA. During the right time of year, the park can be quiet and yet commanding. The views from Yosemite and the surrounding area simply can not be described with words (at least mine) and photos only tell part of the story. Looking up at a mountain side 4800 ft. high from where you stand (half dome) with sheer cliffs is just awe inspiring. I recommend at least one hike up to some waterfalls. Book a trip, you won't be disappointed.

Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Major correction in Photoshop for an overexposed mountain.

Yosemite Waterfall. This year there was so much water that you couldn't distinguish the 2 different falls.

The whole valley floor was flooded with water, which is why it is so lush with grass. The two people in the photo are my grandfather and a cousin of mine. The black corners are called vienet and are a result (in my case) of the polarizing...

One of the many mountains in Yosemite. I liked this one for the two logs in front. Only wished I had a better exposure.

This mountain stood has very distinct angles on the front where slabs have come off. Makes for a very nice picture with the right angle light.

This was taken on a bridge over Bridal River. A nice, short hike takes you up to Bridal Falls. Well worth the walk. I especially liked this picture and even enlarged it to 20X16 with fairly good results.

This is a view of the disastrous rock slide that Yosemite experienced in the late-90's. You can see the results of the slide in the background.

At the top of Vernal Falls. The hike up to see this falls is highly recommended though it does have some big slippery steps. Take a rain jacket in heavy rain seasons or you will literally be wet to the bone.

Vernal Falls from the top with two cousins of mine. It is just amazing to see the amount of water tumbling over the side. Later, being an typical engineer, my cousin(on the right) and I calculated the approximate acres/min of water...

Another view of Vernal Falls tumbling over the side. It really is a view that one must see in person to truly experience. Highly recommended!!

Vernal Falls taken on the way down the trail. I used a polarizer in this photo which enhanced the water and rock color. I enjoy this picture a lot. Ansel Adams also composed a fabulous photo of this particular waterfall as he did with...
