Rafting Owyhee River - 5/16/2006

This rafting adventure down the Owyhee river was the first time most of us had been rafting (Don had gone in college). Our group consisted of John King, Don and Colby Collier and myself (Jeff Wilkinson) as the rafters. Colby did amazingly well, especially for being (I'm sure) the youngest on the river at 5 years old!! Ultimately, it turned out to be the best trip (at least at that point) and still is within our top 5.

Around every corner in this amazing area were a variety of views, from high canyon walls to expansive meadows to rock outcroppings. There was one class 4 rapid which we scouted and then Don conquered in the Kayak and John conquered on the raft. There were 3 photographers on this trip with really good equipment and as such it took a long time to filter through and pick out the best ones. Since there are so many, I would suggest looking at them in the thumbnail view and then clicking on pictures that you wish to see larger.

Don Coiller brought an awesome Canon 5D with an amazing L series 50-350mm lens, I was in awe at the results and as such need an L series lens some day. I had my Canon 20D with a few different lenses and John had his Canon SD550. I guess we are a Canon family... :)

So our names, indicating in almost all cases who but mainly which camera was used, are prefixes in all descriptions. John had a waterproof housing for his camera and as such it was usually passed to the person whom was not controlling the raft. This was an extremely well documented trip which I just love because everyone makes an appearance many times!! Have fun and leave comments!!!

The captions were written by me (Jeff) and checked and revised by John.

John squeezed in among the raft and kayak and other gear in the rental car...yes I said car... No one will ever know how he got all that stuff in there. Needless to say we had to switch to a minivan...

At the put-in point the morning of our launch (Wednesday, May 17, 2006). Organizing all the gear took quite a while due to our inexperience. That's why we do these kind of things though, for the experience.

Conversion to leg powered transport custom built by John has begun. This is the first time the contraption has been built on the raft, so it took a little time to get it all together and adjusted.
