Sunflower Mine, AZ - 11/9 - 11/12/2007

So this trip was kind of a unique trip style compared to the rest of our trips. Well, then again, it still had the same old crazy elements... Offroading, hiking, cave exploring, mine exploring, backpacking, you know the general run of the mill weekend fun stuff. In an effort to maximize the fun time and yet stay close to Mike's and my home turf, John agreed to take a hit and fly to AZ. We decided early on that the trip had to be within a few hours drive of Phoenix. That narrowed down our options quickly. John quickly proposed a fun filled adventure that was passed around, mulled over and finally agreed on.



So basically here is the trip: Sunflower mine exploration the first day, but the trail had some pretty rugged offroading in store for my 4X4 Blazer. We passed a jeep on the way back and they looked at my vehicle and wondered how in the heck we had made it up there without tearing up an oil pan... Thanks for all the spotting help!! This included looking at the run down mine and also exploring the cave. John dropped down a vertical shaft about 40 ft with the help of my climbing ropes.


Then the next day we did backpacked down a 1300 ft drop into Fossil Springs near Strawberry. This area is a series of natural springs that gush about 29 million gallons of constant temp water per day, year round. All in all a fabulous trip.


I decided to release this photo album and attempt to work on some snappy captions later. Wedding planning is taking time and I wanted everyone to see these fun photos. There are also some videos that I'm going to look into getting up someplace... As usually, with most my backpacking trips, I've named the photos with the name of the person who took it. So you'll see jeff, john and mike extensions... Good times having all these photos.
