Tempe Music Festival - 3/31/2006
This represents an awesome night of great bands at the 2006 Tempe Music Festival. The lineup included Willie Porter, Greg Koch, Arc Angels, Eric Johnson and the highlight was Jeff Beck. All the following photos that are recognizable are of Jeff Beck. Also, these are all taken with my old but reliable Pentax ME Super (old fashion film :) ) with a 50mm lens. Check out the last two photos for an example of noise filtration. I was concerned they wouldn't let me in with my digital Canon, so decided to go old school and small.
Jeff Beck was really awesome in concert, he was backed by Pino Palladino on bass, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Jason Rebello on keyboards and Beth Hart on vocals (nice voice, however a little too much warbling sometimes). Since they had Beth on vocals (for some of the songs), the rest of the band was mainly instrumental (letting her be the main voice). Jeff does some pretty amazing things with the guitar, sounds you don't expect. I also thought it was really cool that he can go from rocking hard to a quiet piece and sound perfectly normal. Many rock bands can't play soft to save their life, either that or the guitarist never plays without the support of everone else, which Jeff did. For the encore he played a surprising "Somewhere over the Rainbow" by himself (very moving performance) and transitioned into a harder rock piece with Beth Hart singing.
