ASU Choir Concert - 4/01/2006

ASU choir concert at Chaparrel Christian Church in Scottsdale, AZ on April 1, 2006. The concert featured Concert Choir, University Choir and Choral Union (community choir). Unfortunately no photos of the Choral Union (I'm in this one), however there are photos of the two ASU choirs with the nice organ backdrop. The program contained a good variety of styles from the Concert Choir performing a challenging Rejoice in the Lamb by Britten to the University Choir performing Poulenc, Debussy and a Moses Hogan spiritual 'Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel'. The Choiral Union sang the Durufle Requiem, a challenging piece with a monstrous organ accompaniment. While I'm still partial to UofA and the Symphonic Choir I sang in, I believe I would have had a grand time singing in the ASU choirs. Good repertoire and lots of talent in both choirs.

At first I thought this was a Tracker organ, however it has electronic action (solenoids opening pipes rather than the mechanical connection to keys that a Tracker uses). This used to be their main organ and is now kept...

I like this one because the organ baffles are open, displaying the real pipes.

Notice the seeing eye dog in the front row. It's awesome to see a blind person singing in a choir. She must have a great pair of ears.

The typical SATB sections are mixed in some sort of fashion. Takes a lot of talent to do this with such a small group. They pulled it off though, I couldn't single out any one voice during...
